The best gym in Seattle depends on whether you want a cheap big-box floor, a club with a pool, a coach, or a wall to climb. For the lowest published monthly price, 24 Hour Fitness Northgate starts at $24.99 a month and has a lap pool and courts. For true 24/7 entry, Anytime Fitness in Fremont is the one we could verify. For a full-service downtown club, Seattle Athletic Club Downtown has a pool, nine squash courts and a track. For families in Ballard, Olympic Athletic Club has two pools and childcare. For coaching, Ballard CrossFit and Polaris Strength & Conditioning lead, and Bouldering Project is the climbing gym with a real weight room and a simple $30 day pass. The Downtown YMCA is the budget-flexible pick with financial assistance.
How this list was made: The Fitness Falcon did not visit, tour or train at any of these gyms. This is a research-based guide. Every gym was checked on its official website and against the City of Seattle's active business-license records, with a public listing as a further check, between 12 and 18 October 2026. No gym paid to be included. Prices are exactly as each gym publishes them, and where a gym doesn't publish a price we say so. If you're weighing a national chain, our guide to US gym chain membership prices and fees compares the big names side by side.

What gym memberships cost in Seattle
Among the gyms we could verify, published monthly prices run from $24.99 (24 Hour Fitness) to $399 (Polaris individualized coaching). Three of the eight gyms, including both premium clubs, don't publish a price at all. The headline number is only part of the cost:
- Annual and activation fees. 24 Hour Fitness lists a $69.99 annual fee plus $1 to join and $4.99 activation. Bouldering Project charges $55 activation on monthly plans.
- Commitment. 24 Hour Fitness's cheapest rates are yearly plans paid up front. Ballard CrossFit and Bouldering Project are month-to-month.
- Guest rules. Olympic Athletic Club admits non-members only with a member, for $20. SAC Downtown offers a 3-day trial by request.
- Free trials. The Y (three visits in a week), SAC Downtown (3 days), Ballard CrossFit (a class), Polaris (an intro session) and Anytime Fitness ("Try Us Free"). 24 Hour Fitness Northgate doesn't currently offer a free pass.
Planet Fitness, the usual answer to "cheapest gym," blocked our automated checks, so no Seattle club is listed here. Our US gym chain price comparison covers Planet Fitness and its fees from the company's own filings.
Getting there: light rail and parking
Seattle is one of the few cities on our list where rail matters. Northgate Station, served by the Link 1 Line and 2 Line, has a 443-space garage and serves the area around 24 Hour Fitness Northgate. Judkins Park Station on the 2 Line is near Bouldering Project Poplar. We haven't measured walking distances, so check Sound Transit's trip planner.
Parking is the other sorted detail. Downtown, Seattle Athletic Club validates at Market Place Garage for $2.75 off-peak and $5.50 to $6.50 midday. In Ballard, Polaris shares a free lot, and Olympic Athletic Club's FAQ mentions a neighboring garage at $10 for three hours. Anytime Fitness Fremont and Bouldering Project Poplar both list parking.
How to choose a gym in Seattle
- Start with your schedule. Only Anytime Fitness on this list is open 24/7 on a standard membership. 24 Hour Fitness Northgate, despite the name, closes at 11pm. The Downtown Y is closed Sunday. Class gyms work only if their times fit your day.
- Decide whether you want a pool. Four gyms here have one: SAC Downtown, Olympic Athletic Club, the Downtown Y and 24 Hour Fitness Northgate. Only the last publishes its price.
- Check tier inclusions at chains. At 24 Hour Fitness, what you can use depends on GetFit, KeepFit or KeepFit+ and on the club tier. Ask what your tier includes at Super-Sport clubs before you sign.
- Price the whole first year. Add annual, activation and join fees to 12 months of dues before comparing. At 24 Hour Fitness that's roughly $75 on top of dues.
- Use the trial at the hour you'd train. Most gyms here offer one. If you've been away a while, our guide to returning to the gym after a long break has a sensible first-month plan, and our guide to what to eat before and after a workout covers fueling early sessions.
- Read the cancellation terms before you sign. Washington law adds some protection, below, but your contract's notice period still applies.
Washington gym contract basics
Washington regulates health club contracts under RCW 19.142, the Health Studio Services Act. As verified for our national guide, the main points for members are: a three-business-day right to cancel a new contract; payments capped at 36 months; cancellation rights on death or total disability; for contracts longer than a year, the right to cancel for any reason with 30 days' written notice, or if you move more than 25 miles away; and refunds due within 30 days. The statute is on the Washington State Legislature's website.
Most of the gyms here sell month-to-month memberships with their own notice periods, which are separate from these statutory rights. Keep a copy of your contract and any cancellation notice. For federal rules and other states, see our guide to gym fees and how cancellation works.
This is general information, not legal advice. For a specific dispute, read your contract and contact the Washington State Attorney General's consumer protection division or a lawyer.
How we chose these gyms
We built this list from desk research, not visits. We didn't tour, train at or get paid by any of these gyms, and none paid to be included. Every gym was checked against its official website (address, hours, programs and any published prices) and against the City of Seattle's active business-license records, which are published as open data and were updated the day before our first check. Where possible we also checked a public listing. We aimed for a mix rather than a single winner: a budget chain, a 24/7 club, two full-service clubs, a community YMCA, coached CrossFit and strength gyms, and a climbing gym with real fitness facilities. We left out gyms we couldn't confirm as operating, and we don't publish ratings or review counts. Details were checked on 12 October 2026 and the main prices re-checked on 18 October 2026.
Some options are missing because we couldn't verify them. Planet Fitness blocked our automated checks. CrossFit Interbay and CrossFit Belltown had no evidence of 2026 operation. The 24 Hour Fitness in West Seattle is reported closed and isn't in the chain's site map. We also found no dedicated women-only gym or powerlifting gym in the city; MBodied Strength, a women-focused personal-training studio at 1800 S Jackson Street, is a coaching option rather than an open-access gym. We'll add any of these once we can confirm details from official sources.
How we score these gyms
Each gym gets a score from 1 to 5 on five criteria, in half-point steps. The overall score is the average of the five, rounded to one decimal place. We score only what each gym publishes, as described in this guide. We did not visit, tour or train at any of these gyms, and no gym paid for its score.
When a gym doesn't publish its price, its value score is capped at 3.0, because you can't judge value without a price. A specialist gym can still score highly on facilities if its equipment is strong for what it does. These scores are a starting point for your shortlist. They are not a substitute for a trial visit at the time you'd actually train.
- Value: the price compared with what's included, after annual, activation and processing fees.
- Facilities: the equipment and amenities listed, such as platforms, pools, saunas, recovery areas and studios.
- Access: opening hours (24/7 scores highest), day passes or free trials, and the number of locations.
- Coaching: the range of classes, coaching and programming on offer.
- Transparency: whether prices, contract and cancellation terms, and hours are clearly published.

Beyond that, your contract's own notice terms apply.
